The EMS Orchestra welcomes players of all abilities (we are non-auditioned). It is a fantastic way to integrate undergraduate and postgraduate members of the university in a relaxed rehearsal space. From Sept 2020–June 2021, the ensemble will be led by Rhiannon Harris, a 2nd-year musician at Queen's and this year's EMS Vice-President.
EMS A Cappella is a mixed-voice, non-auditioned vocal ensemble consisting of students from The Queen's College. It offers a relaxed alternative to Oxford’s auditioned chapel choirs – our repertory is varied and accessible and has included classical, folk, and popular music. This year, the ensemble will be directed by Charlotte Jefferies, a second-year musician at Queen's and this year's EMS President.
The Jazz band performs once a term at our '5th Week Blues' in the Beer Cellar, Queen's small but mighty college bar. At the Jazz nights, we also have an open mic, and invite singers to give us a rendition of any jazz standard. Our termly bluesy jam sessions allow musicians of all abilities to join forces and enjoy music-making together.
